Default Highlands or Blowing Rock?

If you were opening a small boutique aimed toward a demographic that still spends money, which town would you opt for?

It's pretty much the same demographic for both towns!

Highlands. No question. Open something expensive and fancy, and you're set.

Blowing Rock. More accessible than Highlands.

Yep, and not just that, they get traffic from ALL over. All those big country club communities are full of people from all over the country, and especially the Northeast. I've met more New Yorkers in Highlands than North Carolinians. Or even Southerners in general.

Oh yeah, and they show up with money to spend. You just have to have what they want, whatever that is.

Most of the New Yorkers are in Cullasaja CC. I think many in Mountaintop are from the Virginia area. Most other clubs are southern in makeup. ie. Highland CC is mostly Atlanta, Wildcat has the elite from from the many SE states.Wade Hampton down Cashiers is very southern as well.

I would say Blowing Rock is faaar more New Yorker. JMHO though.

I think it's funny. I think everyone I've met has been from the south. I hear a few NY accents down at Ingles, but I haven't met "one." LOL

Yeah, that's true. Lots of rich Atlanta execs and all that. But you know what's funny, my aunt lives in Cullasaja, and she has been in Highlands full time for 30 years. She just happens to be a doctor who still lives there full time, so she's got a real nice place. Lucky her, actually getting to live and work in a town that nice. Although honestly, I couldn't handle it, other than the great weather. Being in a community like that for me is like being a fish out of water. I prefer tractors and horses to Gucci and espresso.

I think Highlands is faring the recession alright... Just be prepared for a very seasonal economy (ie things almost coming to a halt in the winter.)
