Are there any public or private elementary schools that have either full immersion or dual immersion in Spanish in the area. Before moving to the area I want to find out if there is any opportunity for my child to continue with Spanish. My child will start second grade and has been in full Spanish immersion since kindergarten.
Any information or ideas about how to maintain and continue to develop my child's Spanish would be extremely helpful. I'm learning Spanish myself, but I am a beginner for sure and can't teach my child (indeed, my child teaches me. Thanks!
As far as I know, there is not. I do know of at least one Spanish immersion preschool, but none at the elementary level and above. Many (if not most) elementary schools do have a Spanish program, but it is just a class and not an immersed environment.
There is a fantastic total spanish immersion program in Marion about 45 min East of Asheville. Check out Eastfield Global Magnet School. There is one class per grade of total immersion through 3rd grade and then it starts 1/2 English. Teachers are natives of Spanish speaking countries, and each class has an assistant typically from a different country. The kindergarten teacher is AWESOME! I can't speak for the othe grades yet but they all seem wonderful. My daughter is almost done with kindergarten and can read/write/speak 75% Spanish.
It is also year round, 9weeks on 3 off. Starts in July and goes till end of June.
We are going to host the kindergarten and first grade assistants in our home next year. Feel free to msg me for more info
Looking for Spanish Immersion Preschool in W. North Carolina
Hello,
We are relocating from California to NC soon and our daughter has been in a Spanish Immersion preschool as well. We are actually both Spanish teachers (though I stay home now with my kids) and are excited to see how far she's come. We HATE to lose all the work that we've put into this. I know that Bruce Drysdale Elementary in Hendersonville is adding a Spanish Immersion program this year, but not sure what the set up is like (90/10, etc.??) We really want a preschool for this year (she'll be 4) so that she doesn't lose everything. Does anyone know of a close one?! We'll be in Hendersonville.
Best way to learn a foreign language is to actually BE in a foreign country. I lived in a foreign country attending a foreign school and picked up another language in 3 months. Kind of the "sink/swim/or die" method.
Still have PTSD from it all, ha ha ha, but my fluency is still damned good, even after 20 years.
