OK Guys,
Anyone have any info about The Cliffs subdivision in Asheville? Someone today just told me that it would not be a suitable place for a 10 year old girl due to the transient atmosphere. She didn't elaborate so I need to put it out to everyone on city data. I have already mentally bought a home in Horse Shoe but I need to consider the distance away to Biltmore Forest where our horse will be living. My take on an Asheville home is that we'll be close to all the activities, cultural, eateries, museums, art venues etc and probably spend more time in Biltmore forest and on Beaver lake. I have to consider everything because I really don't want to move another time. The schools in both areas I'm considering are good. I need help with the inside scoop on The Cliffs Thanks in advance to all. Starr |

The Cliffs at Walnut Cove is a very expensive subdivision just outside of Asheville. Several other Cliffs communities are in the upstate of South Carolina, and another, featuring a golf course to be designed by Tiger Woods will be built east of Asheville in the Swannanoa area. I can't imagine these are transient communities. Very expensive homes, some of the most expensive in the area.
As far as Biltmore Forest is concerned, unless you live there, outside of the horse you are keeping there, you probably wouldn't be spending much time there unless you join the Country Club or something. There's not much there but high end homes, no shopping or anything like that directly in the town. It is its own town with its own police department, etc. |

Hi Roxors
I guess it's the Cliffs at Walnut Cove. It's only 2.5 miles to Biltmore forest. It was a vacation rental home being turned over now. Maybe she meant it's in an area of many other vacation rental homes, I'm just not sure. Isn't the Biltmore House in Biltmore Forest? I'm so confused...... Aren't there things to do inside the gates of the Biltmore House? I'm so confused....... |

One solution would be to visit the area before spending what sounds like hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions, on a home. Why are you asking people on a forum where to live? If you've got the cash to be contemplating buying a house at the Cliffs, you have enough money to spend a few hundred bucks, fly down, and do your own research.
The mere fact that you don't know the difference between Biltmore Forest and the Biltmore Estate is proof enough for me. Dear lord... |

Second.... I am a 2 hour drive from Asheville right now and don't need to take a flight to get there. I have seen at least 100 homes already. Third.... I am a single mom, having worked all my life and cannot afford a million dollar home but a mere $350k home. Fourth....When boarding my horse I need to go through the gates of The Biltmore house and I refer to this as the Biltmore Forest. Fifth......... Your comment is very rude, Dear Lord Sixth..... Bless your little heart |

You've already "mentally" bought a home in Horse Shoe, but decided that the Cliffs might work for you. Someone told you that it is transient in nature because there are vacation homes there, so now it doesn't. Luckily, roxors told you that it is isn't a transient area, so now you "guess it's the Cliffs at Walnut Cove"?
Sounds like you've made your decision based on very little data, and from what I can tell, having never actually been to the Cliffs at Walnut Cove... For someone concerned about not wanting to move again, you put a lot of faith in other people that you don't know very well. |

I have asked my realtor to scout this home in The Cliffs for me. until I could get there. I do all my preliminary homework online and gather at least 6 homes to view whenever I visit, which is at least every 3 weeks. I've been hunting since March and have since shown interest in a home in Horse Shoe. Wanting to be absolutely sure of my move, I will see many more homes within my budget up until I sign my signature on a home purchase contract. It was my realtor who told me about the transient atmosphere and I was merely asking the forum for any feedback pertaining to the Cliffs. When you have a child or 2 or 3, you have lots of homework to do before you purchase a home. crime rate pedophilia rate schools need to be excellent hospitals within a short distance other children to play with cultural activities sporting activities etc. Thanks for your interest in my post |

Don't feel bad; a while back I posted, showing an interest in Reynolds Mountain. The 'open minded people' of Asheville on this board proceeded to skewer me because they are opposed to development and wealth. They also assume the type of person you are because of where you are considering living (in your case they took a hard working, single mom and made her a not so smart millionaire). Read through some of these threads; you'll find a lot of very open minded people; unless it's a subject they disagree with (i.e. development and any amount of wealth). I am from a blue collar family (1st to ever attend college) worked hard and am blessed to be able to afford a nice home in retirement...sadly not in RM or Asheville. While we made our decision for better and more important reasons; the comments by some of these 'open minded' folks of Asheville was a piece of the process. I wish you nothing but happiness and success on your relocation. Best.

Not a resident of Asheville so I can't speak for them, but I do not believe they are opposed to wealth like you say. They are like us in other parts of this wonderful state, simply opposed to irresponsible OVER development of our beautiful lands. Over development being fueled by folks coming from more expensive real estate markets who only care that they can get their peice of the pie, no matter what the cost to the community, culture or landscape. Natives who truly love Asheville see Reynolds Mt. as a symbol of how the land is being raped and ruined. You really should try to understand the local issues and pulse of the community if you want to live among them successfully. |

Believe me I spent a lot of time there. Trying to understand people is a 2 way street; there can be good in development; open your eyes to economic impact. Regardless, don't worry about my lack of understanding the folks, like you, on this site; I understand very well; exactly why I'll live elsewhere.
