Hi all,

Can folks expound at all on the benefits/detriments of living in Clyde, specifically verses Flat Rock?

My husband and I are planning to move to WNC. We have a toddler and want to move to an area that will be a great place for him to grow up. We visited Flat Rock & really loved it. It seems ideal for us. My parents are moving to the area as well. We want to live very close to each other. They found a place in Clyde that they think looks perfect (online). I'd love to hear folks thoughts on Clyde (schools, community, medical care etc.).

Thanks in advance!

If you do decide on Clyde, stay away from the river. As far away as possible. And hope the wind does not blow from the east.

Never been to Flat rock....but Clyde is a little(and i mean TINY) somewhat Run down town between Waynesville and Canton....There is really no comparison between it and Hendersonville....Hendersonville is MUCH nice and MUCH larger....I for the most pat just consider Clyde part of Waynesville....

Thanks for your thoughts! We really like Hendersonville. Flat Rock is quite small but very quaint. I'm definitely still partial to the Hendersonville general area. I can't find much on Clyde. Was hoping to get more feedback here. Perhaps there isn't much to say about it. An agent I spoke with today said they have the the 4th best elementary school in the state. That's a positive. My parents just happened to find a particular property they like in Clyde. At least it looks good online. They really know nothing much of that area either. It seems pretty rural and possibly too isolated for my husband and I. We'll be visiting very soon to find out more.

Flooding(most of Clyde was flooded during Hurricanes Ivan and Francis), and not exactly the cleanest one in the area due to being down stream of the Canton Paper Mill....

Hi there ... Clyde v. Flat Rock is not comparable. Check MapQuest for distances, and topography. Apples to oranges and all that.

On a recent visit an agent mentioned Candler being somewhere to avoid due to a paper mill. I didn't realize it was an issue in Canton/Clyde as well. I'm so curious to get back down to NC and check this stuff out in person.

Thanks, QC! Definitely still routing for H'ville here. Visiting very soon with my parents to explore more. Looking forward to seeing the area with autumn colors.

the Paper Mill Sits right in the Middle of Canton....right across from the main part of town....The smell can be pretty bad some days there and in the closer areas of Clyde.....I personally dont ever really notice the Mill in Waynesville or West Asheville areas....
