Out of these towns, which is the best one?
1. Valdese
2. Lenoir
3. Asheville
4. West Jefferson
5. Waynesville
6. Mountain City
7. Black Mountain
8. Hendersonville
9. Canton
10. Morganton

Just curious as to which one is best for a 45 - 50 age couple with two dogs. As for as scenic views, parks and things to do for this age.
Thank you.

Asheville has miles of trails that you can take dogs on. They also have a dog park and plenty of dog friendly restaurants downtown you can dine at with your furry family members.

Tough question, and most of us will pitch where we live/what we know...and your parameters are really general, imo.
My 50Cts:
-Canton doesn't really have many 'scenic views' unless you are up one of the surrounding slopes. The paper mill exhaust is a consideration, too.
-Valdese I know little of, other than driving through it once, but it's barely 'western NC' and less mountainous...
-West Jeff has ~1100 people and while it might be 'cute' if one squints, it is really boondocks, imo.

If you are renting, it may take some searching in any of your list to find rentals that take two dogs.

All the places are good, nice, fine, etc. A few trips to the area and driving around in them will add to your selection info considerably, imo.

I'm 65 and have no problem finding lots of 'things to do'. In fact there are too many things/activities/interests and new stuff to try as it is.
GL, mD

For relocating ? It's all a matter of personal choice and how you want to live a daily lifestyle. There are tons of activities in the area; and it depends on what type and how close you want to be to the activities. Also, depends on your frame of reference (where are you from and why did you relocate? )

Waynesville or Asheville. Waynesville is close enough to Asheville to get the benefits but far enough away to be more rural. We love Waynesville, but go to Asheville frequently.

Of the choices, Asheville as far as parks and things to do. Black Mountain is pretty unbeatable for scenic views however and isn't that far off from Asheville.

If you want to live more in the Northwest NC area, Boone is more your place than W. Jefferson. It was actually listed as one of the best college towns to retire in. West Jefferson and Mountain City are both very much the boondocks.

I don't consider Lenoir or Morganton to be "mountains," more "foothills." Not as much in the way of views.

I guess Valdese has a few things to do, but if you lived in Morganton it would be easy enough to get to them. Valdese has places to walk dogs but no particularly wonderful views. Might as well narrow down your list a little, unless there's something you've read about Valdese that makes it particularly attractive. (If you choose Morganton, you could end up in Valdese anyway.)

Of course you know that Asheville has more of the "laid-back, hippie" reputation, but any of your options would be laid-back. Not hippie, but certainly laid-back.
