Default Winter Weather?

My family and I are considering a move to NC. I've been looking at Lenior/Morganton area and from what I've seen online they are both wonderful towns. I've never actually stayed in NC for any period of time so I'm just going off of internet info. Being that we are from Florida the winters are of particular interest to me. I've always wanted to live in a place where it snows during the holidays, for myself and my kids (85 degrees doesn't feel like Christmas to me). But so far what I've seen is that it seldom snows in these areas. Is there ever a 'White Christmas'? If not, where would you suggest that is a small town feel, with a nice downtown, but not too high in the mountains. Thanks for any info you have.

The most snow is normally found along the northern half of the NC-TN border areas.

The last good Christmas snowfall in the Asheville area was 1969.
