I grew up in Asheville, moved away for a while, and now I'm back getting my teaching license. I'd like to be able to get a job in the area, but I know education is really hurting as far as openings go, particularly elementary education (my area.)
I have a pretty limited understanding of schools outside of Asheville/Buncombe (and when it comes to that, I'm really only familiar with the Reynolds district, where I went to school myself.) But based on what I've seen so far, I'd be willing to cast my net pretty wide in order to look for a job. I've enjoyed every school I've visited and worked in.
But I haven't really been able to get outside of the Asheville/Buncombe area, so I'm wondering what you guys know about schools in the surrounding counties. I'm particularly interested in Henderson and Transylvania, but I'd consider Madison, Haywood, etc. as well. Are surrounding counties as crunched for job openings as Asheville city and Buncombe county schools seem to be? How are the schools there? Are there any counties that I should definitely avoid checking out, for whatever reason? Or others I should add to the list?
