Considering a move to Asheville.
Can anyone give me some information about Asheville? I've never been there, but am seriously thinking about relocating from Texas. It's just the right size and environment from what I can tell from pictures and demographic info. I am a teacher and wonder if I can afford to live in a decent place there on a teacher's salary. It's just me and my dog, and I wonder if it would be possible to buy a small, decent home in a desirable area. Thanks for any information.

Asheville is one of the best small metro areas (maybe the best) in the nation. But the city of Asheville is a bit expensive. A nice alternative would be the town of Mars Hill, north of Asheville about 20 miles. It's a cute little college town, but close to all Asheville has to offer. Towns closer into Asheville (Weaverville, Black Mnt., Skyland, Fletcher, ect) are nice, but I'm not sure about their costs of living. Maybe someone from the Asheville area could give you more info on that. Good luck!!!

In the past couple of years, the price of housing has skyrocketed in Asheville...just like every other place. If you do not mind living outside the city you should be abe to find something that fits your needs.
This should give you an idea of things

I highly recommend visiting first before moving there. Asheville is a different place. Easily one of the most, if not the most, liberal place in NC. So it attracts an interesting crowd from all around. Some love it. Some don't.
Asheville is a beautiful area, has tons to do, the people are super cool and I always enjoy visiting.

Oops! Responded to the wrong post first. Thanks for your suggestion about Mars Hill! That's just the sort of information I'm looking for. I'll check into it.

Hi I'm from Texas and I have been there and I want to move there. I think you will LOVE IT! It is so MUCH better than Texas. The mountains are beautiful!!! The weather is better. I think you should visit before you move just to make sure it's what you want. But I bet you like it, one visit and I was hooked.
