I've been to Spruce Pine loads of times but never seen or heard of The Door. How interesting. Will have to look the next I'm there.

I was there this weekend to have brunch at the Knife and Fork -- which is an EXCELLENT restaurant, would get lots of foodie attention in Chapel Hill or Durham -- and didn't see the door, but wasn't looking for it. I did see what looked to be a public space/park getting developed, perhaps on that lot?

ETA: Yep, the lot is in fact becoming the site of Spruce Pine Central Park, based on comparing the lot in the video to this web site from the Spruce Pine Main Street organization:

http://downtownsprucepine.com/Central_Park.html

Not sure if "The Door" will remain there, but UNC Kenan-Flagler and Penland students help do the redesign.

I loved that video. What a charming thing. I was thinking how nice it was that people could leave "offerings" and it looked like they didn't disappear. Try that in Florida or New York, the stuff won't last long.

...Looking @ that Bull City Rising.... I did see that same area/space in the town...less the DOOR. Maybe they have it somewhere and will reinstall to the site when finished..? That would be COOL!

...OK.............I got the answer! I emailed Spruce Pines Main Street Association and they said......

"The door went to a lady in Spruce Pine that drove by and requested to have it. She wanted to save it."

@ least it is saved...........but I think it would be GREAT if they reinstall it in the little central park in the space where it was.

That's so great you went to the trouble of solving a little mystery. I have a feeling persistence and investigation are two of your strong points.
