Default another new person asking about asheville

Hey all!

I'm a single female college student attending University of Georgia wrapping up her undergrad in Art education with a minor in spanish. I want to move somewhere new to sort of start a new chapter in my life. I decided I was going to move last week and I know very little about the area and I want to know which city in the asheville area would be good for me. Here are some of the things I'm looking for:

1. Natural beauty (duh) accessbility to mountains, lakes, parks, streams, etc
2. Eclectic mix of people
2. Outside happenings (farmer's markets, art/music festivals, street vendors)
3. music/bar scene
4. Affordable rentals on teacher's salaries

I plan on being an art teacher, so should I worry about the need for art teaching jobs? I dont want to work in asheville (city jobs suck lol) but rather in a nearby city/county. I am willing to drive up to 30-45 mins to get to work. I also wouldnt mind working in a community arts center, as long as the pay is livable.

How is the singles scene here? Male-female ratio? I'm African American, and very open to interracial relationships. Are those common around here? What about racial demographics?

Also, how do I meet new people? I will be coming to this city alone w/o friends or family, so how would I get to know people?

thanks so much for any help!
-Alicia

I suggest you do an intensive search about job info in this area. You can start by reading other threads on this forum. Don't move somewhere and THEN try to find a job. You may be shocked to find there are no jobs.

You'll find everything you asked for here, except there aren't many affordable rentals.
