Buncombe County has passed some decent steep slope ordinances not sure how well surrounding counties have done, so do your homework. Since I live near the Blue Ridge Parkway Swannanoa is a quick trip from this part of Weaverville 15 minutes maybe. Md gave good overview of things. He is usually dead on. As far as big out of state developers go (not regular folks) the recession was a blessed breather from them but they will return sooner or later. Many flights out of Asheville connect through Atlanta and from there most anywhere. Joke is you must go through Atlanta on your way to heaven, but hell is Atlanta!

As far as I know, only Delta connects in ATL because that is their hub.

American/US Air connects in CLT (they've merged)

Some others connect in Detroit, Philly, Cleveland

Allegiant Air flies direct from AVL and GSP to several areas of FL as well. Nice and quick too for a getaway.

We are getting "up there" in the world of travel. A direct to BOS would suit me and others nicely. There is a gal from Boston who is/was in management at AVL and you'd think she would have worked on that. ) After all, we made room for Air Force One at AVL twice. But he hasn't been back in awhile.

Regarding flight schedules. Currently Delta flies from AVL to New York, Detroit, and Atlanta.

US Airways to Charlotte. American does not currently service AVL. Code share flights with US Airways will be available late 1Q or 2014. The merger will be completed in 18-24 months.

United to Newark and Chicago.

Allegiant flies to Sanford, Punta Gorda, Ft Lauderdale and St Petersburg. Allegiant only flies a couple flights per week to each city.

During the summer tourist season there is an uptick in the number of daily/weekly flights or larger aircraft to accommodate the increased demand.

GSP, apprx 1.5 hours offers more flights, airlines and destinations than AVL.

Charlotte 2-3 hour drive offers 100+ non stop destinations and 650+ flights a day.
