I was wondering if there are any acupuncturists practicing in or around Asheville? Are local residents generally receptive to alternative medicine? Thanks.

This is like the center of the universe for alternative medicine - acupuncture, herbs, chiropractic, etc.

You can't take a step without seeing a acupuncture clininc in this town, and that's a good thing. Very talented, experienced acupuncturists are here due to the schools that are here. Some of the best in the world, in fact.

You'll be very happy.

Look up Dr Walker in Asheville. No accupuncture that I'm aware of but it's a great holistic care center and they also do chelation therapy. Walker is well known thru out the country for his chelation work. I had a number of treatments there and it's first class.

Default Alternative healthcare in Asheville

Sure, there are several acupuncture therapists in town. Since they offer different styles of service, you might want to start with a "generalist", for lack of other words, who can complete a holistic comprehensive exam and then coach you on the possible modalities. I had a great experience with Dr Russel Sher at Asheville Center for Health Excellence
(http://www.ashevillehealthcoach.com).

He's originally from South Africa and completed his training in the states. He has an expansive knowledge base including advanced studies in pharmakinetics and is quite an expert in herbals. By coupling his disciplines, his patients seem to be quite pleased with his results. For those with more focused or chronic pain, he'll refer to one of about three acupuncturists in town depending on his neurological exam and history.

Check him out. I happen to know that he's offering a free no-obligation initial assessment through July and August. His number is 828-253-1727.

I'll admit I'm biased because I met Russel and his wife Maureen outside of healthcare initially. I'm much more a traditionalist for healthcare so was waery of veering off the path. My wife convinced me that my neck pain was "bothering her enough" to push me over the edge and see Russel (I broke my back as a youth and had several head and neck injuries from sports, one requiring surgery with fusion and a plate).

Hey, first day out I thought I must have been out of my mind with new pain but after a couple more days and second treatment, my range of motion without pain was markedly improved. I'm convinced. Just don't tell my neurosurgeon and anesthesia pain management specialist that I'll not likely be back to see them!
