What city is the Sandy Plains Community of Polk Co in?
Hi, I'm researching my family's genealogy Blackwell & Liles (Lyles) and I'm trying to find what was the Liles/Lyles family home. I understand that the house is still standing. My Great Great Great Grandfather Joseph Blackwell married Atha Adaline Lyles (aka Liles) and it is her family home (her father was John Lyles). I was told that "the house is located in the Sandy Plains Community just over the Rutherford County line but in Polk County, North Carolina. For many years it was known as the Solon Williams place. The Solon Williams Road dead ends at the house if you are coming from the Green River Community.” I've searched online and can't find a city called Sandy Plains, so I am asking if this place description sounds familiar either the Sandy Springs community or the Solon Williams Road or Solon Williams Place? Anyone know the house (it's two stories and painted white with chimneys on each side and 4 pillars on the front)? I have a photo of it, I just don't know for sure how to find it. My Blackwell family has quite a history in the Carolinas, and I'm trying to find out everything about them.
I appreciate the help... Thank you.

Is there a city name for that Sandy Plains area of Polk Co.? Also, does anyone know if the Solon Williams Road has been renamed to something else? I couldn't find it via mapquest? Thanks.

No city name, but Columbus, NC and Landrum, SC appear to be the closest.

Sandy Plains Polk Co
Are you sure it's Polk County? I know of a Sandy Plains Community in Cleveland County just east of Rutherford County.

That's Green Creek. It is not incorporated, but the township is Green Creek and the zip codes are 28722 (Columbus) and 28782 (Tryon). The mail routes are a bit weird, but that's a different topic.
Also, it's not technically Highway 14. That's a S.C. road and so it ends at the state line. West of N.C. 9 to the state line is Landrum Rd. and east of 9 is Sandy Plains Rd.
I found Solen Williams Rd. on my Polk County Map. It is provided by Polk County Travel & Tourism and shows every road in the county (even some private roads) and it is actually very accurate. It's spelled with an "e" on this map. It is state route 1362 and located between Coxe Rd. and E. Green Creek Dr. I looked at a NCDOT map and it shows as a dirt road, which might explain why it's not on MapQuest.

Yes, it does help. I did finally see your message. I've been trying to locate this home and would love to find it. Thanks again for the info.

Sandy Plains, North Carolina
Jill, did you ever find your family home? If not I know someone from the area who is VERY active in the Polk County historical Society who may be able to help. Barb
