We have Lowes and a Lions right near us . Food Lion is right around the corner from us. I found that Food Lion is less expensive then Lowes.I just might have caught good sales but maybe not. Any input on this. BTW both stores were so helpful to us service wise I was very pleased.

I agree with your evaluation. Food Lion is one of the more competetively priced supermarket chains. They also send out a salespaper full of MVP deals every week.
As strange as it sounds, I think there are some people that don't pay any attention to grocery prices thinking 'Well, it's something we've got to have' and other people that think if you pay more the quality is better. So many higher priced groceries are able to do well. In bigger cites than Asheville, many people feel safer in more expensive stores because of an overall wealthier shopping base. But yeah, to answer your question, I think you will consistently find Food Lion to be less expensive than Lowes on most things you buy. |

Hi Lorrie, We have Food Lions here, also. The older are not as well maintained as the newer and the newer has a more up to date selection of some goods. 1 thing I like is the "Buy one-Get one free deals. If ya only want 1--ya just pay half the price. Their frozen, bagged shrimp sales are good with that B1-G1. Sales usually start on weds., here. Really all depends on the management, as it is everywhere.

Lorriem. When you get back to Hudson, you should check out the Ingles on Connelly Springs Road on the Baton side of Cajah's Mountain. Both Mission Road and Dry Ponds Roads take you there from Hudson. This week Propel in the 6 pk 12 ounce bottles is $3.50, the 16.9 ounce packs are $4.59 and the 12 pack is $7.98.
Gas there is the lowest around the area. Yesterday it was $2.82 with the Advantage pre-pay card. They are again running their $.98 Ray-O-Vac battery special (as they have done for numerous times for the past 10 or so years) with either 2 packs of AA, AAA, C, or D or single pack of 9volt batteries. Their dairy products are very good (Bob Ingle bought out the Sealtest Dairy in Asheville when it was closing years ago.) Ingle's milk, in the yellow containers, will easily last for an additional week beyond the expiration date. Ice Cream is always on special. It rotates weekly between Edy's, Bryers, or Pet at 2/$5.30 or so. Other brands also go on sale. Under their program, if you buy one of the Buy One Get another One free, it is priced at half price - you do not have to buy the full quantity. For a quick prepared entree, I will frequently get their roasted chicken thigh and leg quarter sections, five of them for $2.99. Would welcome your comments as to the store, specifically as to the variety and quality in the produce section. |

Meant to say that the AA & AAA are four to the pack, not two. |
