The Conservatives here grumble a lot, thats fine. Probably makes them feel superior putting Liberals down. Thats fine also. They drown out the kids screaming in the supermarket, so alls fine with me.
And this thread was started by a complaining conservative.

Suits me if you prefer the term "regressive."

I used to be a moderator on the old Mtn Xpress forum. My job was to tell everyone to be nice. The members of of the Buncombe County Republican Party leadership posted some really hateful things there during my tenure. With titles like the one the OP used for this thread. If I deleted it or banned them, I was a communist. I am not.

I used the same username I use here, but it was never a secret who I actually was. Offline harassment ensued. At home, at my business, people yelling at my wife and kid on the street. That's just not the way to pull Asheville towards the center.

One of those people can be seen here Suppressing the Vote - The Daily Show - Video Clip | Comedy Central . Even if you hate The Daily Show, know that Mr. Yelton was saying the same sorts of things for years. The "black friend" he speaks of dresses up in a Confederate uniform and marches around with a Confederate flag.

So yeah, the Asheville area is liberal, and besieged by this kind of stuff will probably remain so for a very long time.

Don't get me started on Mark Cates, whose doublespeak can be seen in the comments at the ACT.

I am very familiar with Yelton and Cates..I feel your pain. Not good representations of the best Asheville has to offer.

I tend to think Asheville has a lot more conservatives folks running around than many folks would think....like the dirty little secret nobody wants to talk about. A lot of multiple home folks live here and many are pretty conservative, not to mention it's completely surrounded on all sides for a 100 miles in conservative. It just seems extremely liberal on the whole because of where it's located.

Don't get me wrong, local politics here fall to the left, and the most vocal politically fall often far far left....often cartoonishly so. However, if politics don't interest you it's really not THAT liberal where if those views aren't to your taste your life would be that affected by it.

I am pretty conservative but have found a good life here. I hang around to care of the sick old folks, for the outdoors/hiking, and for the FOOOOD. Impossible to get this food in the small towns I would rather live in. Feed me well, and I am a happy dude.

LOL, trying to get my thread banned because you deem it to be "hate speech"? How tolerant of you!

I was asking an honest question, believe it or not, and the answer to that question seems to mostly be no, fortunately. Although Asheville has many liberals, they don't seem to be the radical, crazy kind like you find out on the west coast, in Portland OR for instance. I lived in Portland almost a decade ago and loved it, except for the radical lefties and their antics. Once had my truck blocked in traffic by protesters near the PSU campus, during their anti-war rally back in 2003, and a couple of those a-holes keyed the side of my truck. If you live around crazy lefties for long enough, you'll know how I feel.

The Blithering idiot returneth. A "Wandering Nomad" for one good reason, no one wants them. Rest is only for the weary; the true snob never rests as long as there is someone to look down upon. Proceed along your journey weary traveler, the "crap hole" will be where you are finally dumped.
