I am a single 33yo male and I am totally torn between Asheville NC and Knoxville. I am moving from Orlando, Florida. I have lived here for the past 10yrs. I love the city here and how much there is to do; but I just cant take the climate here anymore. Also being in decent sized city with lots to do is obviously important to me. I want a total change of scene from Orlando, FL landscape wise. So I want to be in the mountains with a view while at the time time being a good size city. I work in the Hotel industry if that helps. I have also done a lot of security work. I prefer working 3rd shifts. So nightlife is a plus and a large sized factor here.I will also be looking for a new job once I move. Any advice at all would be helpful. I would also love to know which of the two gets more snow it looks about even on both websites but I would love to hear from people that have visited both in the winter
PS> Asheville rent wise isn't any more pricey than my area of downtown Orlando. Already looked into it. Its actually cheaper. so no need to mention that FYI

Knoxville TN is in a valley, isn't it? We poked around there a little when I was looking for work several years ago. It's ok, but nowhere near as scenic as Asheville NC IMO. For TN, I think Chattanooga is prettier than Knoxville - plus it's fun to say Chattanoooooogaaaaa. lol
Wanting to be in the mountains while being in a good size city in this area I think pretty much limits you to the Asheville area.
btw, I was seriously considering a job in Orlando. Decided I didn't want to leave NC. Wherever you end up, I wish you the best.
The economy isn't exactly booming around here. It's highly recommended that you find work before you move.
I concur with "emelvee"..... Asheville or Chattanooga both have a more "mountainy" feel than K-ville. And also would be best if you have a job to come to before moving. Knoxville is a "big time" college town/city, if that enters into your decision making (Univ of Tenn)....so it may have more late night stuff to do. The other 2 choices also have colleges, but on smaller scale.
Would you consider looking in Maryville TN ? Lovely town, about 30 mi. from Knoxville, closer to the Smokies. North of Chat. Highly recommend looking in Maryville, mountain views etc.
I don't see a young single person transplanting to Maryville. Knoxville has the night life, young people, etc. Yes, Maryville has a small college, but otherwise it is mostly families, retired folks.

Well he's not going to get any mountain views in Knoxville TN; and there is no comparison between Chatanooga and Asheville. I'd take Chatanooga for jobs, weather, younger population, and jobs which should be #1 priority.
Plenty of places have mountain views in Knoxville, some are quite dramatic, including views from several apartment complexes. Strange that you would think otherwise.
Best thing for the OP to do is to visit all 3 cities. Then he can concentrate his job search on the one he likes best - move on to #2 if necessary.
