10 years ago I rented a brand new 3 bedroom house for 750. That same house goes for 1475 now. That's why people are complaining. Incomes have not kept up

Twenty years ago we bought a house (fixer upper) near downtown for 34,000. two years later we sold for 100,000. six years later it sold for 265,000. we did all the work and made maybe 50,000, next owners did nothing and made 165,000.......go figure. Still, wages can not keep up with prices, but there are no options that I know of. Those who work in Monte Carlo, do not live in Monte Carlo.

and it is too bad because AVL could have some good growth but remains stagnant.

Stagnant? In what way? I see only growth; new businesses, restaurants, entertainment, office space, condos, the arts, tourists, media attention. If this is stagnation I want more of it.

I can't understand how you continue to state that Asheville is stuck in a state of inertia. When were you here last? If you're making these comments from FL, you are out of touch with the growth of Asheville. Asheville seems to be in an upward expansion phase, and I say that from sitting here in the City of Asheville. Loving it!

^^^ That is good to hear, for sure. I lived in Asheville for yrs, and frequently go up to visit family in the area. I haven't been back in probably 6 months or so though. I just didn't see a lot of new home construction or anything new. I also know that due to low paying jobs and statistically speaking, dont see the population growing much.

Its not a bash of AVL, I like AVL. This is just what I see on visits and what I hear from friends.

I can see Marshall, Mars Hill, even Hot Springs becoming a suburb of Asheville in another 10-15 years.
