Hi, I would suggest looking at Rutherfordton, nc as an option. it is a great community where there is hardly no traffic but a big sense of community.

lots of land still available at a decent price, not a lot of polution and always a friendly place. let me know when you make a trip i would be happy to show you around.

i am a local real estate agent, but i am happy to introduce anyone to rutherfordton. i have lived here for most of my life other than college and i love it. i just recently moved back from minneapolis, mn due to the birth of our daughter because i wanted her to grow up in the kind of town i did.

let me know if i can help answer any questions for you.

I live in Rutherfordton which is in the western part of North Carolina. I have lived here for 27 years and couldn't move if I wanted to! Rutherford County is a great place to live and work. There is a wide variety of housing options here so being right up next to your neighbors could be avoided!!! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Hendersonville is a small retirement town just outside of Asheville. The downtown section consists of quaint and unique shops that draw people here from all over the world. The folks are friendly and are totally dedicated to preserving their wonderful community. It's location is very desirable because you are within minutes to South Carolina and/or Tennessee. We've always got several options to enjoy all the festivals and events that the area has to offer. This place is absolutely beautiful, not to mention the fresh mountain air. It hardly ever snows here. But if you like snow, you're also within a few miles to enjoy the beautiful scenery, or visit one of the ski resorts. We enjoy the many golf courses and of course, we get enjoy the many restaurants that provide you with any type, style or price you want. Our house is located near Flat Rock - home of Carl Sandburg. This attraction also will give you some of the best theatre performances you will see outside of Broadway. I must stop raving about my new home town. Please visit us if you can. I know you'll love it too!!

My husband and I are in the process of trying to buy an acreage in the Hickory area. VERY DIFFICULT!!!!! Dont know what price range you are in but we have had a hard time. We found an acreage in Morganton that we liked but the 6 acres was covered in trees, I have horses so I need pasture. I called 3 tree removal companies and was quoted between $20,000 to $50,000 PER ACRE to remove the trees!!!!! SO BEWARE if you have animals. We REALLY like the Hudson, Sawmills, Rutherford College, and Baton areas. They all have a small town feel.... and excellent schools! (important if your children settle here) Check out SchoolMatters - Home if you want school info.
Good Luck!!

My husband and I looked at Rutherford county we were not happy with the crime rates. Forest City in particular! Any inside info on this? What is it like down there? Do you feel safe?

Hey TNT2NC
I too live in the Pinelands(Whiting,). We are also looking south, I would like a setting similar to what I have here, plus I would like somewhere between 3 and 6 acres. I have been looking in the northern section of NC, I really likes Kernersville and Stokedale areas. We are going to be down in NC a couple of times this spring and summer.

Well just wanted to say Hi and good luck. Maybe we'll be neighbors in NC.

Ed

You might want to check out the area in between Morganton and Hickory. Right on the outskirts of Valdese (right between Morganton and Hickory off of I-40), there is a new development called The Settings of Lake Rhodhiss. The area isn't crowded and is very peaceful and quiet. We lived in Valdese for years and found it to be close enough to all the shopping, restaurants, and services we needed but we felt very removed from the traffic and hustle. We visited the development and were impressed. they will have canoe and kayak launches, community docks, walking trails, pools and tennis courts, but keep a lot of green space and have a good appreciation for the natural landscape.
