Gave you a positive Post for that great picture of Hendersonville. We have a house north of there closer to Marion. We drive through this beautiful town on the way to our NC home.
Waynesville. Bakersville is pretty dead, or it was the last time I was there. Boone is college tacky. Blowing Rock is way expensive. Hendersonville is good, but not very high elevation. I don't know about Weaverville.
Waynesville has the downtown you are looking for. It has homes within walking distance. The people are nice.
We're building in Waynesville. We've been hanging around up there off and on for many years and will have our home completed by next summer. After that, who knows?
Burnsville in Yancey county meets all of your criteria. It is a quaint little town with a town square, locally owned and operated restaurants and coffee house. It is located about 30 miles north of Asheville. Yancey county, specifically the south toe area, is known for its numerous artists and galleries. Also, Yancey county has the highest average elevation in North Carolina and is know as the gateway to Mount Mitchell. It would be an injustice for anybody considering relocating to Western North Carolina not to consider Burnsville. It is one of the prettiest places I have ever seen.
Been going to Murphy NC for quite awhile. Lots of Floridians, quaint, walkable downtown is growing with many new shops. Some very good restaurants downtown and all around the town also. It's in way WNC so depends on if you need a large city nearby. Home prices aren't too bad either. Floridians are everywhere but the long term generationals folks usually stick to themselves.
