My grandfather lived at 1717 5th St in Hickory. I went to Hickory 2 yrs ago to see the house, but couldn't find it. Has Hickory changed street names in the past 10-45 years? Is there a directory or something where I can find the new street name?

In Hickory, most (perhaps all) addresses have a "quadrant identifier" in them such as NW (for Northwest), NE, SW or SE. I don't know when this was instituted. I think Main street is the divider between north and south, and Center Street is the divider between east and west.

Do you remember where the house was relative to Main and Center? Would you recognize the house if you saw it? If so, try Googling the address in each of the 4 ways and see what pops up.

Also, are you sure its 5th "Street"? Hickory has both a 5th Street and a 5th Avenue.

How long ago did he own the house? You can try a county property seach online. Jut to to the county website. Sometimes they will allow a name search so you could figure out the address.

He lived there during his teen years. I've never seen the house before, so I don't know what it looks like.
