Critics say the crowds who pool around the most talented performers block downtown business entrances and spill dangerously into the narrow streets.
We've experienced this with my little one in a stroller; we couldn't get into Woolworth walk and had to go into the street to get around. No one was moving out of the way. Really annoying. Furthermore two bands were on the same corner competing and sounded bad. I think having designated spots with permits would be a good idea.
There is a photo of "Princess Evelyn"
Granted, i don't go downtown a lot but I have visited enough on a Saturday night and this person does not look familiar. Nor does the building behind her. Where is that building?
^ No idea...doesn't look like downtown A'ville or anywhere in Asheville to me.
She has a FB page, and other stuff suggests she works in Seattle, (one of the street performer meccas), so maybe the photo was just a stock shot tossed into the NY Times article.

She's standing in front of Central United Methodist Church in Asheville.
