I am exploring the idea of buying a nice home in the Asheville area in exchange for my home in the Baltimore-Washington area (Columbia Maryland). I am looking for a 3 0r 4 bedroom house selling in the $375,000-$400,000 range. My house in Howard County is a 4 bedroom brick rancher with finished basement and 3 full bathrooms, 1/4 acre overlooking the narrow Little Patuxent River.

Howard County is famous for its excellent public school system. Howard County (Columbia) to be precise is 45 minutes from downtown Washington D.C where federal jobs are the mainstay for the economy. Baltimore is 20 minutes away offers excellent colleges, medical facilities (John Hopkins), professional sports (Ravens, Orioles, and Wizards). My home is worth around $475,000-$500,000.
If you are interested in further discussion I am on this thread and will be in Asheville from August 8-11.

Wouldn't it be easier and more to your economical advantage to sell your MD home? As you describe it, you would loose $100K? It's very unlikely there's someone in Asheville who wants such a trade and your location. If it's such a great location why are you willing to take such a large loss?

Default asheville/howard county house swap

there would not be a monetary loss as the person buying the howard county property would make up the monetary difference. the real advantage in this transaction is it negates for the most part realtors and settlement date would coincide making both houses available for occupancy on the same day. I know this is a longshot. thank you. responding to imhere now posting
