40F works for me!
I've started to look at places to rent.
Whoa! Your vacancy rate is .9 percent.
I don't mind being 15-25 minutes outside the city.

I do have two small dogs and I am a responsible owner.
They are used to travel, vacation homes.
If anyone has suggestions, ideas...I'm open to them.

Hi
Sorry I have been absent for some time. Have you made any decisions yet on your move? It was very hard to find a place to rent. My husband went down and camped for a week and was able to find a rental and be the first one to see it. It seems that you have to be ready to apply and commit, since places are filled so quickly.

The lack of long term rental housing is related to the dominance of short term rentals (STRs), whereby owners, some being remote businesses, have bought houses or built small cottages on their property for daily tourists rentals at high rates. This is a problem not only for people considering relocating here, but even more so for the service workers needed in the vast tourism industry. STRs create a service worker shortage, as these people can least afford the long commute to affordable rentals with low paying jobs. There are over 1,000 listings on Airbnb here, the largest number of any location in NC.

thank you for cking back in.
Wow! Sad to see all the destruction from the flooding in SC and NC from the stalled front, high tides and hurricane.

Yes, I have discovered the tight housing market and that you have to BE THERE to find suitable properties.
I did not know that about Airbnb...then couple that with other sites, there must be a tremendous number of short term rentals for visitors and those looking to relocate.

I am still very interested in Asheville, but am thinking about remaining here for one more winter (ugh) season to get a clearer picture of my options/desires. The market here this Spring and early Summer was robust with houses in my neighborhood selling in just days. At this stage of the game, I really need to make this decision "comfortable" and well thought out.

On the other hand, if I could make it all happen in a matter of days or a couple weeks, I'd surely hit the road
