I took a short trip up to Mt Mitchell this morning to see it for the first time and grab some photos. The scenery is great up there, but the weather is unpredictable and changes in a matter of minutes. There is some color, as seen in a couple of these pics. The trees seem at peak on the Blue Ridge Pkwy just down from Mt Mitchell, and traveling up Hwy 128. I hope to return before winter to do some hiking on the trails in the park.
Some color coming down the mtns...
A very wide angle shot, close to what we 'see' on our deck, from a 10mm wa lens on a crop sensor Canon 40D...taken a couple days ago as sun started to set behind us, lighting up the mtns.
Nice Sun Rays this morning...weird day today, as it got totally fogged in, then warmed up, then some brightness later. Mtn weather: I love it here in Sept, Oct and Nov! Thanks for looking.

A batch of pics, taken today while chasing the ball at Laurel Ridge CC down the mtn below us, and from our deck...
Fabulous days and cool nights; this is the best time of the year here in the mtns, imo.
Thanks for looking!

Our color has really advanced all of a sudden. The other night it POURED rain so hard it was scary. I expected to wake up to fallen leaves, but most are still on the trees. How they held on, I don't know.
Couple shots, looking down our mtn toward Laurel Ridge CC, Waynesville, (Hazelwood), and with Mt Pisgah, The Cold Mtn, Wolfpen Mtn, etc off in the distance.
Similar shots, but a hourish apart in late afternoon. New lens: Canon 15-85 IS USM, from me to me. Much sharper than the 17-85 it replaced, and that lens had quit working as they typically do.
Cleaned up a bit in Lightroom, though not exaggerated...this current color is about as 'good as it gets' in this clime, imo, and it's fading quickly at these higher elevations. The leaf drop is full on and amazing in the quantity this year; maybe due to the wet/warm summer.
And, up here and across the view at even higher elevations, many of the trees are bare and the color is about optimal, western NC version.
Simply fabulous weather here this Autumn...
Thank you for looking!

Reason: Ditched the full size files...too easy to get ripped.
Got home last night from a 5 day golf/car meet trip up in VA & MD...this morning it was 32 degs F, and a light covering of snow. This 'front yard' shot is a bit different look than the one I posted a couple weeks ago, .
Poor VetteVert, sitting in the driveway where we dumped it, last night...
