Homeowners insurance is high, car insurance is high, electric bills are becoming increasingly higher every year. During the summer months in Florida our electric bill for a 2000 sq ft home is 425.00 when several years ago it was $250. We raise parrots and sometimes we have to ship them from an airport would like to know how far airports are away from the mountain areas or even the foothills? I have always wanted a log cabin or Rustic home and a must have is a wood burning fireplace. Our interests are gardening, site seeing, flea markets, craft shows, bowling, fishing, shopping. MotorDavid had asked this in his post. Looking forward to hearing from all posters soon. Thank you very much for all of your input and help.
Just about any rural area 15 miles and more outside of any city. I would say for the most bang for your buck on acreage, look at counties north of Asheville. Towns such as Mars Hill, Marshall, or Candler, Leicester, Weaverville, etc. Here is the map of all counties in NC. Asheville is in Buncombe County. Branch out from there; and a lot is going to depend on your budget/price range, how much land you need and so forth. If you need to work, that is a whole different ballgame; jobs are not plentiful. The closer you get to Asheville, the more $$ it is. Asheville Regional Airport is in Buncombe County. Otherwise, you drive to Greenville, SC or Charlotte, NC. 45 mins. or 2 hrs. respectfully.

you're likely to be judged being from florida than from new york but there are many folks from florida there so *shrug*

HOWEVER you may be getting cool summers but you will have cold winters.
