Congratulations, Tony! I know that was a big move for you. You can go to school, too, Tony, if your heart's set on it. You just eat a lot of beans and rice and maybe pick up a little part-time job on the side if you need to--or even a short-term loan. The BIG picture is that you'll be returned to your family, your place in the mountains, and a job you LOVE! Our hearts go out to you along with our best wishes!

ksurvivor, I suggest you search the forum for previous threads on the pet issue.
For lease/option-to-buy opportunities, I would ask the same realtors who show houses for outright sale... Google it... ask rental companies if any of their clients might be interested--we use the services of Investment Properties Management (IPM) in Arden... and if you want to pursue it on this forum, start a new thread to draw fresh interest to your new subject. Good luck.

Congrats" on selling your home! I am not sure if anyone posted this thought, but if you have any free time, I would suggest that you go to the Real Estate agencies in the town you are looking for a home and scan through the homes that are on the market, because now, MOST/ALL homes have virtual tours on the web and you can gather much info and see all the rooms in the homes before an agent rides you all over the vicinity, tiring you & the agent out. This way, you can know up front if you have ANY interest in a particular house thus eliminating some. It is my understanding that there are more homes on the market now than in many previous years, and there are "tons" of agents seeking buyers. Sellers they have- buyers are much more scarce, so any Realtor will probably go the extra mile to help you find your dream home! Good Luck- Moving is very stressful under the best conditions.

Did the Parkie's Buy?
Hi Parkies,
I've been following this thread and your stories as a silent observer and wondered if you have settled on that special town yet?
We are in the same situation, sold the house, looking for a rental and then prepare ourselves for the big house search,,,but where. I'm looking for a thriving art community, slow pace, no traffic, and an indoor swimming pool to swim laps. My husband is looking for a vineyard to go vin-garden and drink it too. What did you decide to do?

We now definitely know where we want to be--to the EAST of Asheville so that we will have easy access to both Asheville and Black Mountain, yet will still be a short drive to UNCA and the Basilica of St. Thomas (next to the Civic Center).
If our house in San Diego closes escrow on March 14 as expected (we are working through the inspection process right now, but inspection turned up nothing major), we will be free to move into a purchased house here very soon. We will also find it necessary to move out of our current rental here, possibly by as early as March 31! (We're requesting an extension on that rental but haven't heard back yet.)
May I ask those of you in the know: Is there anything illegal or unethical about working with two or three realtors at once in the process of finding a house to buy??? We would not sign any commitment papers with any of them and would let each one know that we may be working with others. We would simply work hard with each one to the degree that he/she is able (has time), and whoever finds us the house we want to buy would get the contract. Our timeframe is going to be so short that I'm thinking we need to involve more than one realtor, beginning immediately, to help us find that special place. We have been told there is nothing wrong with this approach. What do you know about this, please?
We really appreciate your help! Anyone else have any suggestions about where we should look EAST of Asheville?? We'll be driving around and working with realtors full-time starting on Monday, so please tell us which areas you think we should explore.
We're looking for one or one-and-a-half levels, 2400 sq. ft. or so, breathtaking year-around long-range vistas, a low-maintenance acre or more, wood-burning fireplace, wildlife, mature trees, and quick and easy access to both Asheville and Black Mountain. Since we're no longer looking at high-end developments, probably any price point will work for us.
Thanks so much!!!
Jan

Thanks, lovesMountains. Yes, Pattyann, Bill and I should be moving by the end of April to EASTMOOR, just off Highway 70 near the Folk Art Center on the Parkway, about halfway between Asheville and Black Mountain. We still haven't closed on our house in San Diego--everything about that has been a struggle for 14 months--but things are looking good now for a probable close next week! Congratulations on selling yours! Take your time--there will be even more houses coming up for sale here now that it's spring.
