Default Newcomers, your thoughts on WLOS

Curious about how people from elsewhere now living here view the quality and content of the WLOS news coverage.

I don't think much of WLOS news broadcasts. I rarely watch unless I'm looking to see a specific story. More than likely to watch WHNS-Fox out of Greenville for Asheville-Hendersonville area news.

It isn't great. Seems like they want to only do "feel good " stories and the headlines. Most of the newscasters are terrible. I do like Darcel Grimes as I remember her when I lived here in the 80's. She's just familiar.

WLOS is much like most stations in the same size markets, it's basically a training ground or stepping stone for the broadcasters. They better ones usually go on to larger markets. The Florence/Myrtle Beach, SC market is the same way. I lived there 15 years ago and it was the same then.

Ditto for Eastern NC's "WITN". Except this area has the most "feel good" news stories that I have ever seen. It is kind of sweet, but for the real news, I go online and/or wait for the ABC news with Charlie Gibson. I enjoy that very much.

On the plus side, I do like Darcel Grimes and Larry Blunt. Larry seems to always be on the verge of cracking a joke. He is a Navy veteran and has a son that is at, or just graduated from West Point.
