We just purchased a rental property in Black Mountain that is in need of various upgrades. We live in Charlotte so don't have a good list of go to people for various things. Anyone have recommendations for these types of contractors? I've googled and read the reviews and it seems most Asheville contractors will come to BM. True?
-HVAC - Was told White and Williams is good but reviews online say otherwise. Looking to get a wireless thermostat installed and a yearly maintenance schedule set up. Called one place and was quote $575 for the thermostat, which seems off the charts high.
-Hardwood floors - Need bedroom carpet replaced with hardwoods. About 275'. Lowes quoted us (any experience with them from Loop Rd?) and had a rough estimate from a guy I found on porch.com. I talked to Quality floors in Hendersonville too but I need to be there for a quote, so a bit tough. Others?
-Interior painting - Need trim and walls painted. About 900 sq feet total so not a huge job.
-Landscape / Hardscape - Want to improve the landscaping and maybe get a some pavers, pergola, etc. as well.
-Tile / Bathroom redo - Bathroom tile is bad so looking to replace shower area and possibly the whole bathroom.
Both good and bad recommendations are welcome. Thanks!
I don't have great news for you on this. Asheville is a booming place lately and we homeowners complain about not being able to get trades people AT ALL, they are so busy. Or the quotes you do get are just stupid high. Supply and demand is very much in place here.
However, let me give you a helpful hint. Places like Lowe's DO have relationships with most of the worker types you need so that is how you can get them, by contracting with Lowe's or Home Depot. Big bonus: they will supervise the job since you live elsewhere.

Sadly, that's been my experience as well. The real estate market is a booming and I'm getting prices from contractors that are as much as 100% higher than the last. They are fat with work and just throw prices out there as there is always another job just around the corner.
