Default Teaching in Asheville area??

My hubby and I are hoping to move up to the Asheville area this summer. We are looking for info about the hiring process for MS/HS in the area (Buncombe, Henderson, Madison, Transylvania counties). Is there any point in going to the area job fair in May? Also any insight into possible needs/availibility of jobs (HS English and ESE). We met/lived in A-ville and have been trying to get back ever since. Thanks in advance for any info...

Default Teaching

I would advise checking out these three sites:

Buncombe County Schools | Hiring Process

Asheville City Schools - Employment

Employment

Henderson County Public Schools

MCS Job Vacancies (broken link)

Employment 3-10-08 — Haywood County Schools

TCS-Employment: Employment

By all means attend the job fair.

Welcome back to the area! I love living here.

Well, obviously I changed the three sites to several more. I wanted to say that you need to get your application online at the NCDPI. Plus you can start sending out resumes to any of the MS/HS principals in the areas you are interested in to give them the heads up about employment in the fall and to tell them your application is now online with NCDPI. Some places are already hiring for next fall! Best to you!

The job fair is a waste of time. Nobody is actually hiring at it.

My best advice is to get the state application in, get your paperwork going for your license, and just go to the individual county websites to find openings. Flood them with your resume! If you can be available for interviews that is great. If you can't and you are teaching now, I would tape yourself in the classroom and email that.

THere is not a teacher shortage in WNC, but persistance pays off. Ask me how I know! Also, just before school starts everybody is scrambling to fill positions, so that is a good time to get hired if you haven't already. Good luck!

Default thanks

I knew it was going to be a challenge, but I'm ready for it!! I'm going to put a video intro together this week to attach with my e-mail when I send it to principals. My hubby and I are coming up for our Spring Break the first week of April, so I hope to set up some interviews for that week. I have lived in the area and worked in human services, so I know the schools for the most part (and none are as bad as the two where I've taught in Orlando). Anyways, if any teachers know of any LA jobs opening at their schools, let me know (though I am checking all the county sites religiously!) Thanks again!
