Default late April and asheville/smokeys?

What is late april like for going to Asheville and Smokeys for wildlife/plant/flower photography? Is it a little too late for the spring bloom?

Also, is the Asheville arboretum any good? Are there any must see places in the Smokeys to see?

The Arboretum is very nice. The Biltmore Estate has extensive gardens.

For natural/wild flowers you can always find 'spring' by going higher in elevation typically on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

There are actually TWO arboretums if you include the one on the UNCA campus, which is lovely.

March 20, First Day of Spring, Weather Report
Late April will be fine for photography. Today, after wind and rain last night, it was 38 degrees this morning in Asheville. The clouds were clearing early, but some still covered up Mount Pisgah, and beyond that you could see snow on some of the mountains. Spring here is not like the coastal South, takes longer for it to come. The "first" tree bloomers are just beginning, pear trees have white flowers and the forsynthias are getting yellow. By mid April, the grass will be quite green, temps rather better, and the dogwoods, apple trees, and tulips will be blooming. A sweater or jacket is needed for all of April, as the nights are quite cool. Once in a while, tourists get "trapped" up at Pisgah with a late snow in April.

Weather can be a crap shoot in the mountains. Last April the extremes at my house were from 84 degrees to 17 degrees. The 17 degrees on Easter Sunday damaged a huge number of trees and bushes and ornamentals.,
