Hi there, Hope you don't mind if I ask "What part of FL do you gotta get out of?" I live in Port Saint Lucie, FL and would love to move to NC. I own a cabin in the mountains east of Asheville. Can't sell my house in FL. Just wondering about you! Do lots of homework on the area. Each city has it's own personality. Quite interesting. Very nice and helpful people. Wendy

From what you described, it sounds like Hendersonville/Fletcher area would be a good fit for you... much more "country" area yet close enough to Asheville (20 or so minutes) and Hendersonville... both with lots of shopping, restaurants, activities, etc. As far as the kids... I think you will find there is a lot here for them, it's just a matter of finding the connections to them. The previous post is right... all of the schools are pretty good... TC Roberson, West Henderson, AC Reynolds...

As far as home prices... you can find a 3 bedroom with a "bonus room" (could be used as bedroom/office/rec. room/etc) around the $250K range. In fact I just looked at a very nice one today in a popular subdivision, Livingston Farms (Fletcher) for $245K. Moderator cut: removed

Wendy,
Trying to get outta TAMPA! YUCK!!! I have lived here my entire life except for Gainesville for college (UF..GO GATORS!) and Chicago for about a year out of college.
Thanks for the advice...I am really trying to do my homework. We are not moving for three years and I am still obsessed with finding the perfect place for our family.

Meredith,
THANK YOU! I will certainly keep you in mind. We may be coming up next month and I thought of calling a realtor to ask questions about the different areas.
I appreciate your willingness to help!

Thanks everyone!! I am so impressed and pleased with all the kind-hearted people on here. Hence, why I want to move. FL people...not nice. HA!

Hope you find the perfect place to move. We have a cabin South of 40 off of 226. It's about an hour to Asheville and 45 minutes to Hickory. Marion is dead north of us. Beautiful area! You can buy a cabin in a gated community for under 300K. I heard the school system isn't the greatest though. Best wishes! Hope all of our dreams come true...

Coming from Fl. you will be amazed at the schools. We have been here a few months now and both of my kids (Elementary and High School age) are behind in school. They were both straight A students in Fl. I had no idea how bad Florida schools were until I moved here.

Asheville has everything you are looking for. My best advise is get the job before you move. Good paying jobs are hard to come by. Do not move here without one unless you are independently wealthy or retired.

Best of luck.

Default Fellow Floridian On the Way to NC

I just read your post and could identify with your situation. My husband and I are also looking to move to the Asheville area. We have 3 small children, I'm a teacher and hubby is a mobile DJ. It sounds like you are looking for the same things we are. When are you looking to move? We were thinking in about 1 1/2 - 2 years from now. Good luck to you!

coquiee,
HOW FUNNY! We are in the Tampa area too. Where are you exactly? We are in Carrollwood in N. Tampa.
Also, I used to be a teacher...so we have even more in common. I taught middle school.
We are looking to move in 3 years. If you would like, lets keep in touch. We can share our findings with the other on our hunt for the perfect place to raise kids!
We only have one child now...but hope to have more in the future.
Thanks for responding...we are checking out Greenville, SC and Asheville, NC next month and then GA in May or June.
Talk to you soon!
