I have scoured these pages going back several years and I would still like some opinions, please. My husband and I currently live in New York State. He is a bit older than I am and when he retires within the next 18 months, we plan on moving to WNC. I will still need to work for a few more years. We have been looking hard at Tryon, love the downtown charm and the houses seem reasonably priced. But job prospects seem a bit bleak. We are thinking of Sylva, with the college nearby, there seems to be some more employment opportunities. We have been to Hendersonville and Waynesville, and we felt they were both too big. We are coming down again in the summer to spend more time in Tryon (and to catch the Chihuly Exihibit at the Biltmore!) and we are going to Sylva and perhaps Bryson City. Does anyone have any particular information on Tryon, Sylva or Bryson City? Does one have an advantage over another? What do you love about the area? Anything you wish you could change about the area? Thanks so much for any info you can give me!

You will find dozens of posts, probably hundreds, by doing a 'search' in one of the boxes on the main page. Tons of information on Tryon, Sylva, Bryson etc. which you asked about. Tryon would be the most expensive of the three. But there are many small towns in WNC. You may also want to look at Burnsville, Blowing Rock, Boone. Yancey County is very charming.

If you want an adorable quaint charming town, well located so that you are not out in the 'boonies', make sure to visit Saluda. If you have vacation time this summer or fall, it would be best to start making some excursions to WNC and visit various areas. Best wishes.

Thanks QC. I have found the posts you are referring to, but not the information I need.

I guess I am looking for first hand information from people that live in those areas to give me the "real scoop" on living there.

We are looking forward to a visit in the summer and we will take a second look at Saluda. I appreciate the time you took to reply.
