We have *thought* and I use that word quite guardedly about moving back to NC from CO to be near family. We could probably only do Asheville after living in Colorado because we love hiking and the outdoors. We have thought that it could possibly be a good location for a B&B. We have a close friend in Vermont, older than us though (we are early 30s) that has a B&B. She runs a full breakfast that is open for the community also. Her B&B is pet friendly and she expanded to include a doggie daycare that is also open to the community. We have discussed with her and have a good idea about costs (besides the real estate for the home if we did the B&B or daycare if we just did commercial space). However, I am concerned as to whether Asheville would support this type of business, either or both... People in Colorado for example are really dog friendly and the area supports alot of doggie day cares. B&Bs do well also because of ski resort traffic in winter and Rocky Mountain National Park travele in summer. I don't get the sense that people in Asheville are particularly dog friendly or that travelers would want a dog friendly B&B. I am doubtful about it, but thought I'd ask.

I think B&B's do very well here... we have a lot of people that come into the area for the "tourist" attractions... hiking, scenic tours, historical tours, etc. For that type of a vacation or trip, hotels just don't fit the mold in my opinion. Be have several in the Buncombe and Henderson County areas, and they seem to do very well. One selling point in a few is the dining options they provide to businesses... my husbands company used to do their holiday party at a very well known one in Black Mountain before they sold out. I know there are a few established ones for sale if that's an interest to you? I don't know about the demand for the pet side of it... but I would imagine if you included that in your advertisements it would draw a large crowd because I don't know of any others that emphasize on that availability.
