Default Family Practice

We live in Maine, but are hoping to move to Western NC after I complete residency. I'm just staring my search. My husband and 5 year old daughter will be in tow. What areas or hospitals/family practice offices would you recommend that I look into?

ooohhh, we could use a pediatrician here in Black Mountain....also a small walk in clinic would do well here. As it stands now, we have to huff it all the way to Asheville for broken bones, stitches and minor emergencies. I always call them ready-meds but you know what I mean. We do have a couple General Practice physicians here and they do quite well. Other than that we have Mission in Asheville and Park Ridge by Fletcher that I have been to and have been happy with.

Default Health care in/near Asheville, NC

I have lived and worked in the Asheville and Black Mountain areas all my life. Mission Hospitals is not perfect, but some of their care is wonderful especially if you stay with the Mission side.

General practitioners: I used to go to Family Care, but they seemed to only care about money. They stopped accepting many insurance policies, (supposedly because they did not make enough money from some policies), mine included, so I had to go elsewhere. They built offices all over the area with money from patients with acceptable insurance companies. They had the gall to ask me back once I had another insurance company. No way. I went to my current doctor whom I love and would not go back to Family Care if it was free. They were nice sometimes, but I feel I get better care and a better knowledge base where I go currently. Unfortunately, lots of people found my doctor and he does not take new patients.

Keep trying though until you find a really good one! They're out there. I wish I had switched sooner, but I felt comfortable where I was so I stayed.

A brand new medical complex just opened in Black Mountain, in case you're still looking. Obviously, the need presented itself.

The major hospitals are Mission and St. Josephs. There is also Park Ridge in Fletcher towards Hendersonville.
Good luck!

There are several hospitals in this area.
Like others mentioned before, Mission Hospitals (which includes the St. Joseph's campus Mission Hospital - Asheville, NC) and Park Ridge (Fletcher) Home

In addition you may want to look into the outlying areas:
Pardee Hospital (Hendersonville) Pardee Hospital : Health Service and Community Education for Henderson County

Haywood Regional Medical Center (Clyde/Waynesville area) Haywood Regional Medical Center : Superior Healthcare for Haywood County & Western North Carolina

Rutherford Hospital (Rutherfordton) Rutherford Hospital, Inc. - Welcome

Transylvania Regional Hospital (Brevard) Transylvania Regional Hospital

The McDowell Hospital (Marion - part of the Mission Hospitals system) McDowell Hospital–*A Member of Mission Health

Harris Regional or Swain County Medical Center (Harris Regional is in Sylva both are part of the WestCare Health system) WestCare Health System

Murphy Medical Center (Murphy/Andrews area) Murphy Medical Center Home

Angel Medical Center (Franklin) Angel Medical Center

Highlands-Cashiers Hospital (Highlands) Highlands-Cashiers Hospital Home Page

Blue Ridge Regional Medical Center (part of the Mission Hospitals system - Spruce Pine with additional smaller campuses) Blue Ridge Regional Hospital–*A Member of Mission Health

Saint Luke's Hospital (Columbus) St. Luke's Hospital

I addition I would maybe contact the Buncombe County Medical Society if you are interested in staying soley within Buncombe County (Asheville area). Other counties do have medical societies but, I don't know how active they are. https://www.bcmsonline.org/main/pp/

I work in healthcare management and know of several openings for Internal Med and/or FPs. No, I am not a recruiter but I can surely put you in touch w/ the CEOs of the hospitals. Are you interested in rural medicine? These are very welcoming communities in beautiful NW areas of the Blue Ridge mountains.

Please let me know if you are interested and I can provide you with more specific information about the openings.
