Wondering what areas within, say, a 50-mile radius of Asheville in any direction, would be a place to look for homes with acreage (2-5 max acres). We currently live in the NE on a 10 acre property, only about 4 of which we actually use. But for 'space around us' and to maintain some privacy and quiet, we would like some acreage around our next home. Searching random Zillow and other sites I do find some homes meeting this criteria, but figured people who live in the area would have more of an inside line on this. We very much like rural with access to necessities and we can travel for other things.
Thanks in advance. and TGIF!

I don't think you're going to find a correlation between certain towns, and certain acreage. I would think your best bet is determine an area you like, then engage a quality realtor to help you find a house that meets your criteria in that area.

You might add whether or not you plan on using the land (farming, etc) or are also ok with wooded or steep acreage.

50 mile radius of Asheville? Best you research the area and target some areas.

Pick a rural country side and in most any county and in many cases be with in 10 minutes from shopping or town area and will with in your Asheville drive time . We have plenty of homes with acreage in Yancey county some well under appraised value .

The Net is your friend...
I plugged in "SFHs in Haywood County, with 1/2 to 5 acres'': ~350+ houses popped up with photos, prices & stats.
Realtor.com...
A 30 second process, and it will work for any 'county' in western NC.

To quote Tony, of the infamous couple Tony & Amanda
from Mars Hill, steep is cheap when it comes to land.
I somewhat agree that it is a lot less expensive than land on the flat, especially if you use most of it for a privacy buffer.

We always wondered exactly where they lived. We were thinking Leicester. Thanks for sharing.
