Interesting, but not surprising I guess. The forest reminded me of the Pacific Northwest with the lush, heavy tree cover. I’ll check out the link re rainfall which might change the calculus for us. But boy...we’ve sure seen some reasonably priced houses down there and may try to see a few of them before we leave!
Wait. Didn't you just discuss politics and express your opinion on how intolerant liberals are? I am generally pretty tolerant when it comes to politics, but when people throw out their little political digs and then tell others how intolerant they are, I call that out as hypocritical. One thing you won't see this liberal doing is making sweeping generalizations based political beliefs. However, that courtesy is seldom returned for some reason.
It is duly noted that you self identify as a liberal and as being tolerant. And, no, I did not call liberals "intolerant" if you read carefully.

This is true. When we drive through there, well Hendersonville which is in the same rain forest area, to go to Greenville, it rains a lot. pamjedlicka may like Etowah or Horse Shoe as well. It puts you between Brevard and Hendersonville. That way you still have the conveniences needed. Pardee Hospital is in Hendersonville. Brevard has a small hospital for minor things but you would go to Pardee for more major things. Just a thought.
ParDee Hospital is in Hendersonville and is affiliated with Univ. of NC health system. There are top notch
surgeons, cardiologists, and an excellent new cancer center that opened recently on the ParDee campus.
The hospital in Brevard is excellent and it is not just for 'minor things'. It is also affiliated with Mission Hospital and has some excellent physicians and orthopedic surgeons. Brevard is definitely 'in' the rain forest.
Hendersonville being 'in a rain forest' is a surprise to me after being here 15 yrs. Etowah is on the 'cusp' of the so-called rain forest but is in Henderson County.
In addition to the two hospitals I mentioned above, Quirky, we also have Park Ridge Hospital. Another high quality hospital with excellent physicians and staff. Here is their website:

They are alike in that they both have a lot of trees and get a lot of rain, but really have a different look because the types of trees in each area are different. I really like both, but they look completely different.
Brevard gets 62 inches of rain per year. Hendersonville gets 55. Asheville gets around 45, according to the Citizen-Times but that varies by microclimate. Lake Toxaway gets 78+ inches per year.
