we used to camp around asheville and would consider moving to a small to mid sized town not far from there
we like active towns with walkable downtown areas. Like in Europe, older towns with character and such.
any ideass are appreciated. Atlanta suburban area residents for 30 years now.

I really like Weaverville, which is I think what you are looking for. It’s less than 15 minutes away from Asheville.

Come check out Yancey County and Burnsville NC . Nice small town square type town . Were close enough to a weaver ville or Asheville for a easy commute on good 4 lane roads but were not lacking for much locally ether . Taxes are lower here outside the city limits than in many counties . WE have a large central valley across the county also helps control weather . Often there is less weather extremes like rain , wind and snow in our valley than surrounding high country mountains and much of what lays south of us like Marion Old Fort , Black Mountain to Asheville .

It's been a rainy summer all over NC, from the mountains to the coast. It happens every few years. I personally would not avoid Brevard because of summer rains.

The rain is what makes this area so lush. Would rather have rain than be subject to the possibility of so many wildfires, like are going on out West.

LizaP, is your new house ready yet ? wondered if you are living here currently. This is the worst spring summer … can't plan anything. Have 2 umbrellas in the house and 2 in the car. Too humid to even sit on the enclosed porch. yikes.
