Default New Schools

I am a teacher and am hoping to relocate to the area but need a job before I make the big move from Florida. I have been checking the various school district sites in the area, but was wondering if anyone knew of any new high schools or middle schools scheduled to open next year. They would most likely need to hire several teachers, so I was hoping to get my foot in the door that way.

Also, are there any charter schools or private schools in the area that are secular?

Thanks for any help you can provide! I really want to move to the area this summer, but am not finding too much in terms of a teaching job.

I don't know of a single new middle/high school set to open or even under construction in Buncombe or Henderson counties. There isn't a large number of families with school-age children moving to this part of NC. The newest school in the area is Cane Creek Middle School southeast of Asheville. It was built in 2000. The next one to open will probably be in South Asheville/Arden, or in the Fletcher area. However, none are currently planned.

There are two secular charter schools in Buncombe county: Francine Delaney School and Evergreen Community Charter School.

Default Henderson County Public Schools

Three new elementary schools are under preparation for Henderson County, Mills River, Hillandale and Sugarloaf. Nothing at the middle or high school level that I'm aware of. Sugarloaf is scheduled for occupancy in the Fall.

Hillandale is a replacement for an older facility (link). Mills River ES is at least five years old, according to their website.

Sugarloaf is brand new, looks like it's going in the big dirt spot on this map.

Both the new Mills River and Hillandale schools will be replacements. Sugarloaf is an additional school.

More jobs should begin getting posted soon. If you are very patient, they get a bit desperate in the two weeks before school starts.

There are plenty of children moving in this area, but there is not a teacher shortage in WNC.

If you can wait until school lets out, I imagine that a lot more openings will hit their websites. If I were you, I would even contact schools directly... sometimes principles will know of upcoming positions that have not yet been posted. I assume you have already gone to the websites for Buncombe County Schools and Henderson County Schools and searched their available positions?... other than that source, making phone contacts is the only other option. Is there a certain subject or grade level you are looking for?

I check the county sites every day and have applied to two positions in the area that apply to me. I am looking for English 6-12 and my fiance is looking for Social Studies 6-12. We really want to move, but we can't wait until just a couple weeks before since we HAVE to have a job to count on to live off of. We really want to buy a house in the area, but we need jobs by the end of June or else we will have to stay put in Tampa

There is a new High school opening in Morganton this fall. It is about 30 mins. east of Asheville. It just posted a new website. Asst principal from Patton High is the new Principal. If I can find his name I will forward to you. My roommate is looking at schools as a media specialist, coming from Sarasota area. The interview process ia multi level and some are by committee. She had interviews this past week, but all say the must follow 3 step process. So I assume she will have to fly back up.
Good luck to you and your wife!
