The people who move to the Asheville area from elsewhere -- is there a predominant place of origin?

Are they mostly moving down from the northeastern metro areas, or from elsewhere in the South, or from ___?

Not likely it would influence my relocation thinking -- just curious.

Most of the move-ins to WNC are either from Florida, or the Northeast, mainly Jersey, or New York area.

And many of those Florida transplants are halfbacks, so NY, NJ, Northeast in general is the original starting point.

Three on my street (of seven houses) are from Florida by way of the Northeast. They bought here and spend half the year in Florida and half the year in WNC.

^ Cool chart even if the time frames are a bit narrow...
Same for Haywood County: people from many other states.

Anecdotal, but of our dozens of friends, (inc many native long time western NC natives), and of the hundreds of people I know that came into our area, many are from all points of the US.

I lived in the area for about 10 years. I liked Morganton/Valdese area.

Blowing Rock is something to see...May be a little pricey...But if you can afford a place with a view there, you can spend many happy days just sitting at home.

Keep in mind that WNC is not just Asheville. Lots of variety and options depending on what size and amenities you are looking for. Traditionally we have a lot of transplants from the NE and Florida, but are seeing a new influx from California and Oregon. As others mentioned, visiting and staying for more than a week will help you get an actual feel of the fit.

Blabbermouth! Oops, shouldn't be calling people names, sorry.

Just wish you'd stop letting people know there are areas in WNC other than Asheville.

Some of us would love to keep our relative anonymity.

You’re right. It’s probably time to keep it under wraps!
