Default Activities for kids

We have guest from out of town coming in July. They have an 8 year old and a 5 year old. We are looking for things to do in and around Asheville while they are here. Low cost as we are all feeling the economic pinch.
I was thinking the WNC nature center for one day and maybe an easy hike? This mom really keeps her kids on the go so I need to be prepared. We are usually a little more laid back with our 7 year old.
Anyone have any ideas?

We are down in Hendersonville, but whenever we have company come to town, a trip to the Rocky Broad River on the way to Chimney Rock is always a "must do". This past weekend, my sister brought her kids up from FL and we spent a good 3 hours playing in the river. The younger ones did not swim, but they built dams and hiked over the rocks. The older boys had a great time in the water, but came out sssssshhhhhiiiivvvveeeerrrrriiiinnnnggg! Jump Off Rock is also free and has a couple of easy hikes and one "heavy breather"...LOL! I call it that because my out-of-shape body emerged from that particular trail, breathing heavy! LOL!

Where is "jump off rock"? Sounds like the kind of thing I am looking for. Playing in the Rocky Broad is a good one. I suppose we could take a picnic and then let the kids play! Ahhh, cheap and fun!
