I had to go to the SSA today. I was treated badly by an employee who would not give me her name. She basically threatened me and spoke to me in a demanding manner. Is there anything I can do? Does anyone at the office really care how their staff treat citizens?
We were in the Asheville location of SSA not too long ago. There was probably about fifteen people also in the room and we had been waiting about twenty minutes when two of my girls started singing quietly. They were standing right by me and really not disturbing anyone. In fact, two ladies sitting in front of us turned around to tell me how well behaved they were and that the singing was cute. Well, a minute or so later, this obnoxious little security guard came over and told me we were going to have to leave because we were disturbing others. I asked him who and he said it didn't matter that we were being too loud and needed to leave. Not even, please stop the children from singing, just get out. i was so angry! And my little four year old was so heart broken she cried for about ten minutes asking "why that mean man didn't like her song". We couldn't leave because we were my friend's ride, so we just went outside, but almost every person that had witnessed the event and left while we were still waiting, told us that my girls were adorable and that they weren't bothering them at all.... My 4 yo still talks about it every once in awhile and it still hurts her feelings. It was completely stupid!!
I would call the office and ask to speak to the supervisor. Even if you don't have the lady's name you can tell the supervisor what time of day you were there and what describe the employee. If the supervisor is rude go online and look up the Social Security Administration office in Raleigh; call them.
As I was not a witness I have no idea where the truth is, but there are always two sides to every story. Rude, demanding or condescending treatment of the staff in any client/customer relation will result in a negative response.
You may have a legitimate beef, or you may be the problem.
