We've been here about six years. Fabulous community! Great views, and great folks!

If you want to live outside the towns, remember that Rutherford county has NO zoning, and virtually no community planning. You should consider living in a community with some fairly strong covenants, otherwise a quarry or logging company may move in next door.

Default Forest City Great Place To Live!!!

Forest City is growing very much. Definitely in the past 6 months it has grown signifigantly. A 20 million dollar revitalization plan has just been put into affect which will bring us a new state of the art movie cinema. Tourists Attractions and much needed entertainment for current residents. The homes are wonderful. No adversity or DRAMA!!! Great Schools! Three High Schools with about 1200 students each. Town has around 80,000 residents but is very large and expanding daily.

I just moved to Rutherfordton a few months ago, which is right down the road from Forest City. It is true the Forest City is revitalizing itself and it's pretty nice little town. However, the population of Rutherford County is approximately 63,000 residents and the population of the town of Forest City is approximately 7,500, so I am not sure where the 80,000 figure from Clogan00 came from.

Here's a link to the demographic information from the chamber of commerce.

RUTHERFORD COUNTY NORTH CAROLINA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

There's a PDF document at the bottom of the page that gives you a lot of information about the county and each town.

Moderator cut: TOS Violation and native of the county I'm also a mother of 2 school age children and the schools are one of the main reasons my husband and I decided to move back to Rutherford County 3 years ago. When we moved back our daughter was a rising 6th grader and the thought of her entering middle school in Charlotte was enough to make me consider home schooling. Moving back to Rutherford County saved my children from that horrible fate (a good mother I am but when the good Lord was handing out patience I must have been looking for the loo...)

Three years later and our daughter has now entered into the early college program that Rutherford County offers. Basically they choose 12 rising high school freshman from each of the 3 high schools to attend classes at the local community college. In 3 to 4 years (depending on the amount of time the student can devote to extra course work) the child graduates with both a high school diploma and a 2 yr associate degree. Class sizes are small and the kids that join the program are good influences because they realize what an opportunity they're getting.

Our son has just started middle school this year and so far we're quite happy. Since it is such a small town, it always seems like everybody knows everybody else's children. I am always amazed at open houses when I see my children's teachers and realize "I knew them when..." In fact it seems like every year one or both of the children will get at least one teacher that either my husband or I had when we were in school. To see a teacher stay in such a difficult profession for so long (especially when compared with areas of the state where 60%+ of the teachers are new or nearly new)shows that maybe something here is working.

Ok, so that's my rant for the day

Sorry about those stats TYPO! LOL! I just wanted people to know about the town. It is a really nice place! Of course anywhere you go there will be ignorant people but I havent encountered many! I graduated from RS Central and it is a great high school! It has its problems......such as the football team can never win! But violence and bullying isn't one. It has some of the greatest teachers Rutherford County has to offer, great academic and extracurricular activities also! (I should know I started its Dance Team!!!) I love it! You should to!

this is LOVE THE USA....In a recent trip to FOREST CITY I happened to
have had the great pleasure of having to meet yorkshirgirl. this young lady
spent hours drivng my wife and myself all over the area for about six hours.
this young lady knew that we were just looking around and we may not
even buy in the area but it did not matter to her at all. she answerd all of
our questions and kept a real sense of humor and a smiling face all the
while.

I won't take all of your time with all of the other thing's that she did
for us but I would recamend this person to anyone in my own family so i do
recomend her to any of you.
Hey yorkshiregirl, this is you know who, I think , from MELBOURNE,FL

LOVE THE U.S.A. ( BOB )

Hey LOVE THE USA, I'm from the Melbourne area as well...what were your thoughts on W NC v. Melbourne? I live in Mel Beach and have grown tired of all the issues with the state taxes, insurance and the way they treat the teachers. I am looking in that area as well - any suggestions?

Smile Rutherfordton

Rutherfordton is a great place with a rich history. Established in 1787. Figures into the battle of Kings Mountain in the Revolutionary War. Other than the historical stuff, I just love living in Rutherford County. Born and bred.

Default Teaching in NC

I am a former Rutherford County teacher. Had to leave from cancer problems. I think it is a great place to teach and live.

Hello.

We moved here from Ohio. (to Forest City.) Great, VERY inexpensive town to live in. Well-run town. Holidays are beautiful here! Many activities for everyone!

Let me know if you have any other questions.
