Default Rutherford County,NC

I have 2 friends that have bought homes near Forrest Cty,NC in Rutherford County.Their both come from the Detroit suburbs and feel they are escaping Michigan`s present misery by retiring in NC.

I`d be curious of any opinons you folks in the know would have about the area....thanks.

Default Hello from RC

You'll start to know me as the RC cheerleader I grew up in Rutherford County, Forest City to be exact. I moved away after college and spent 12 years living in larger cities...Charlotte, Winston Salem, Nashville (TN). A couple of years ago my husband and I decided to move back so that our children would have the opportunity to experience the same sort of childhood that we had. It was a great decision for us. If your want a "laid back" style of life, Rutherford County is truly a unique place to live and the real estate market here at the moment is great Moderator cut: removed TOS Violation I hope you're friends are enjoying their new enviroment and if you (or they) have any questions just let me know.

I love Rutherfordton! I don't live in the town limits, but just outside Rutherfordton, between Rutherfordton and Lake Lure. I live about 8 minutes from town. I have lived here for 10 years and adore it. The area is laid back and that's what I love the most about it. Having grown up in Kentucky I love the atmosphere and people here. I am actually trying to get moved closer to town at the moment and as soon as I can sell my home I am moving closer to Rutherfordton Moderator cut: removed or Forest City! My Mother lives in Forest City so we are trying to get closer to her.

Rutherfordton or the surrounding areas are excellent. I would recommend these areas to anyone!

YorkshireLass ...

Glad to here things in Rutherford Co are good! I grew up there, too (Forest City on Forest Lake Drive) and left after college. I miss it so much and would love to get back that way some day. (I'm in Johnston County, NC now.) Are there any pharma manufacturing / research or environmental testing facilities near the area?

Twopaths....

Unfortunately there isn't much industry to speak of at all here in RC (at the moment). The textile mills starting closing in the mid 90's and for quite a while things were quite grim. At one point RC was ranked highest in unemployment for the state. Finally a few years ago, the "powers that be" realized that the textile industry was gone for good and started revitalization efforts in the county that have helped the entire economic outlook of the area. We have a state data center facility that should be finished soon, and Duke Power is planning a large expansion of the power plant located in Cliffside. Those two major things, along with the retirement relocation boom that the RE market has been experiencing have breathed new life into our area. How long has it been since you visited?

Just got back from Forest City today. It is a grat place. I'm trying to buy some acreage there right now, and will be moving there within the next 3 years. Weather was a little rainy and cold, but it was much better than Florida hot weather.

To any local Rutherford County residents: what are the schools like? Which is the best

Elementary school:
Middle school:
High School:

??

We might be moving to the area in the near future, and we want the best school prospects in the area for our kids (one is 5 1/2 years old, starting 1st grade in the fall, the other is almost 3 and will be in pre-k sooner than I can turn around ).

Also, of Rutherfordton, Spindale, or Forest City, which is the best town to live in? Looking at Forest City online, near Vance street. How's that neighborhood?

Thanks for your input.
