Ok, I keep hearing that when the Olympics were in Georgia they bused homeless out of Atlanta to other cities.

Can anyone give evidence of this? Sounds ridiculous to me that they would go to the effort.

It's true and if you do a search on "Google" you will see that a lot of cities do this, and not just for special events. They get sick of the problems these folks create by congregating in business doorways, under bridges, urinating in public places, panhandling, etc. I think that is how Asheville is getting so many new "homeless" who are in fact able-bodied people who don't want to earn an honest living.

Go to the effort? Apparently you don't understand the problems that many of these people cause by remaining. How many times does law enforcement have to deal with them, the county lockup, social services, the bad representation they create every day, and especially when a city is putting it best face forward such as hosting the Olympics. The clean up in China is on the news every single evening.

Besides a one way bus ticket solves the problem and is dirt cheap in comparison to any other option.

And yes there was a noticeable increase in the number of homeless then. Don't have facts for figures, but it was a common conversation topic then, as there was a noticeable increase.

So if ATL sent them here we can send them somewhere else. And this solves the problem how? All this does is put the problem on another city. It then comes back to us when other cities send them here. It's a big circle of more wasted tax money. We still will have homeless. I understand the problem but sending any problem away only postpones it. Something else needs to be done.

Give them all brooms and shovels and make them clean the streets.

Think that has been tried, but the outrage of making the jobless and homeless actually lift a finger to help themselves was deemed cruel and demeaning.

Never mind that it would go a long way to motivate people to get off their backsides and actually provide for themselves vs. begging for handouts, reducing the number of homeless, reducing the burden on taxpayers, and providing a cleaner city in the process.

Daytona Beach is going to try putting the homeless to work cleaning up the streets for a small stipend. Let's see how it works. I at least give that city credit for trying to do something.
