Hey everyone! I am new to the forum, so bear with me. I have read LOTS about Asheville's poor job market and need additional perspective. For example, in the Cullowhee area, how would one rate employment by the University of Western North Carolina? I am considering a position there but don't want to take a leap of faith and move if the job doesn't work out and there's nothing else around to fall back on.

Also, is there anything to do around Waynesville (restaurants, boutiques, etc.)? I am a type "A" (definitely not a hippie chick) but appreciate the hippie chick lifestyle. At the same time, I need retail therapy from time to time (Barnes & Noble is my favorite store). Am I crazy to be considering the Asheville area?

Thanks for any replies/suggestions.

The mountains are notorious for sinus and allergy problems. After awhile you may become desensitized to it, but there is so much vegetation and pollen etc. Heavily forested areas. Plus we get the bad air from TN coming over the mtn. range. Best to call an allergist in Asheville for an objective opinion.

The Asheville CT is not going to proliferate articles on the Tenneseee Valley Authority air problems that are sent over "the hills". Go to a reliable website to read about the problem with the TVA that has been going on for years. That's why they call the TN side "The Smokies".
