I am a new retiree who would like to move to the Carolinas. There is a wealth of information on the internet about homes that are available. I typed my name into these sites and waited for the beautiful brochures to arrive. three separate responses that said that my state (New York) would not allow these real estate agents or builders to either mail, phone or contact me by e-mail with any information regarding housing. They mentioned that they would have to comply with the laws of New York and would not be able to mail me any information .

I don't know the answer to your question. But if you want info on homes in the Carolinas, go to the Chamber of Commerce websites for various areas you are interested in, and their tourism people will usually mail you a package that includes a "real estate today" type brochure, with all the listings of homes in there, plus they send maps and other stuff of interest. As far as I know, THAT is legal, since they're a nonprofit thing.
