Question strange response to inquiry

I am a new retiree who would like to move to the Carolinas. There is a wealth of information on the internet about homes that are available. I typed my name into these sites and waited for the beautiful brochures to arrive.
I was very surprised & perplexed to have received three separate responses that said that my state (New York) would not allow these real estate agents or builders to either mail, phone or contact me by e-mail with any information regarding housing. They mentioned that they would have to comply with the laws of New York and would not be able to mail me any information .

Can this be true ? I have received lots of information from states such as Arizona and New Mexico. Why would North Carolina be any different?

Would anyone know ?

That is really strange. I would call and ask them to send you the brochures.

I don't know the answer to your question. But if you want info on homes in the Carolinas, go to the Chamber of Commerce websites for various areas you are interested in, and their tourism people will usually mail you a package that includes a "real estate today" type brochure, with all the listings of homes in there, plus they send maps and other stuff of interest. As far as I know, THAT is legal, since they're a nonprofit thing.

You can also find the online newspapers for various towns you like, and they will have a classified section for homes, and you can see right then and there what is for sale, with pictures and descriptions. Another online "real time" versus mail option is to go to a couple national real estate websites, they usually have every MLS listing in the country, if you put in the name of the place you want to look at. There are also some generic online websites that are not represented by real estate people, but rather will simply show you what's for sale in different areas, again by putting in the city name, with a long list and map... you can search for those, I forget which one I use.
