Hubby needs to go to Banner Elk this weekend (from Greenville, SC). We alway take 221 through Rutherfordton and Marion. He can make it roundtrip without having to refuel, but just in case... are there any gas shortages along the route I've described?

Marion is out at the moment but should have gas by tomorrow...I hope. I'm sure the Buncombe county folks have their attention on Marion, just waiting to swoop in for the kill.

It seems like things are slowly getting better, keyword slowly. People just need to have patience and all will work itself out.

No calling someone an 'expert' does not really hold any sway with those that look at the reality and not listen only to the rhetoric.
Murphy is remote, Copper Hill, Bakersville are 'remote', Asheville is at the intersection of two interstates, and only an hour or two from Greenville, Spartenburg, Charlotte, Winston Salem, Knoxville, Johnston City, Hickory, Statesville, and others.

The experts happen to disagree with you. Tell them...

The gas situation is getting better day by day. It only requires patience on the peoples part.
Many stations will be closed on Sunday, which will be a good thing. Actually put some fuel in the tanks, some surplus if you will.

Mention this to my boss please. About the patience. And about the closed on Sunday being a good thing.

NO gas here!
We have NO gas in Lincolnton NC. None nada zip. Of any kind or grade and NO idea when any will be delivered. Now I dont even have enough to go get gas if there was any to get. My husband is going to go out today with some gas cans and try to get me some IF he sees any available on his way home from work in Hickory. This is ridiculous. Absolutely insane.

Morganton isn't doing any better. Some of the Big Chain stations get deliveries, but not full deliveries, and then people line up around the block to top up their tanks, whether they need it or not. Leaving none for those that actually DO need it.
Friday afternoon there was one station that had gas, no idea how long it lasted, and Saturday afternoon there was another one that had gas, but not for long.
A co-worker whose husband owns an independent station in town hasn't had any gas for going on 3 weeks now (since Ike hit the Gulf pretty much). His supplier keeps telling him they'll be here in a couple of days, but they never make it. Other independents are suffering the same.
I'm just hoping I can get thru the week and everything is back to normal soon.

There needs to be a MINIMUM purchase of half a tank, based on vehicle. If you want to top your tank when you are at 3/4, go ahead, but you need to be charged for 55% of your vehicles tank capacity.
Greed is the problem, so there needs to be a price to pay for the greed. Some posters have even boasted about being hoarders, topping of their tanks, and the selfish (unmentionables) they are.
