Christopher Hobe Morrison is on a distinguished road
Default Used to live in Highlands.

My great-aunt was named Helen Augur and she used to live in the Bascolm house in Highlands. She lived there from the fifties into sometime in around the sixties part-time, during which time she and Louise and Louise's husband Watson Barrett went back and forth between Highlands and New York City, where Watson was a scenery designer and my aunt Helen was the secretary for the President of the New York Central Railroad. I actually lived with her for a few months in the summer of 1964, but proved badly-behaved enougfh to be exiled back to New York.

Everyone in my family has now died that I was close to. Of course I realize how expensive it is to live in Highlands now, but I do miss the Smoky Mountains very much.

If there is anyone who would like to write to me and chat about the mountains or about anything else I would love to hear from them.

Chris

Default Highlands

I was in Highlands a couple of weeks ago - my in-laws have a place in Franklin (state law in Florida says you get one when you turn 55), and we often stop by Highlands when we go to visit them.

We love the drive on Highway 64 between Franklin and Highlands. There are a couple of convenient places to stop and wade in the river, and the scenery along the gorge is very nice. We often collect small rocks from the river - that is something our young daughter has always enjoyed.

I've never spent more than an afternoon or so in Highlands, so I don't have too many stories to tell about it. My favorite Christmas shop is there, and it looks like the small hotel next to it (Graystone, or something like that?) was recently refurbished. Also, we bought one of our daughter's first books at Cyrano's before she was born.

I'm heading out of town early Monday morning for the week, so I won't see any response that you may have.
