reverse 911: anyone in Boone get a call? (Charlotte: consignment, house)

I am in Charlotte, but DS is in the Boone area . . . and he has just called me to inquire if I had any idea why the reverse 911 system would have called the house (in Boone/Foscoe area) this morning.

Anyone else get a reverse 911 call? No message was left. I forgot to ask what time the call came in, but would assume fairly early this morning since he has an 8 am class.

I have looked online and cannot find any info as to why reverse 911 would have been activated.

Anifani, what do you mean by reverse 911? I never heard that term used before. Could it have just been a wrong number? Is your son in the dorm or apt.?

Hi, Cat!!! We have a home near Boone, and he is living there while going to school. He called after seeing the # on caller ID. It was a strange number - something like - 9119999 - so he thought it was odd and looked it up online.

Reverse 911 is when emergency management in your area calls you (w/ a recorded message) for some reason - such as an amber alert, an evacuation, etc.

We have it here in Charlotte, so he was aware of the program. Then he started worrying why there would have been a reverse 911 call to our house, so he called me (here in Charlotte, LOL). I had no idea why a reverse 911 would have been issued . . . so wondered if anyone else had gotten a call.

Maybe they are testing a new system????

Hi Ani, I work at a little consignment shop on 105 mostly Tue. & Wed or Mon & Tues. right past the Citco gas station that is across from the pharmacy and bank that was robbed. Did you hear about that? Anyway, The lady that was working last Monday, had a guy photographing the store and he told her he was checking all the businesses in the area from the sheriff dept. It made her nervous so for whatever reason, she called me, and I told her to call the sheriff dept. to confirm that someone from there actually came by. They actually had come by so maybe they are testing 911 there. My son is a senior at App St., too. I saw your post on the Charlotte forum and gave you a on your post. I sure hope your right about that. My best friend lives in Charlotte and she is so worried about everything. Come see me at the store when you are in town. I would tell you the name of the store but don't want to get in trouble for naming a business, but it has a big # 9 out front.

Well, gosh Cat . . . we must be neighbors, LOL. Cause our little house is near where you are talking about and I do know that Consignment Shop!!!!! And I will definitely stop by and introduce myself!!! Not sure when we will be back up that way (GAS!!!!) . . . but I will def let you know so we can meet. I appreciate your suggesting it!

So your info really does make me think that this is all connected . . . since that is right where my son is living . . .

Thank you so much for sharing this info. And no, we had not heard anything about the bank robbery. I will have to ask DS is he knew about it. He hangs out at Family Billiards so you would think he would hear all the news, LOL. But I think he has not gotten out much lately b/c school has had him hoppin'!!!

As for the situation here in CLT . . . we are all praying that things are going to work out in a positive way, even tho I am sure there will be some who will lose jobs, wh/ is so upsetting. This is a growing area . . . We have to remain optimistic!!! New businesses are still moving here so that means job openings . . .
