Sorry, meant to reply to this earlier ;-)

We enter NC on 95 heading north. We'll take 95 to 26, to I-77, to 21, right to the parkway.

Jump Off Rock outside of Hendersonville (5 miles) has a good view.

We're planning on doing Devil's Courthouse. Supposed to be 1/2 mile strenuous hike from the parking lot, but leaves you with a 360 degree view at the top. Should be amazing...

Default Leaf Color in Asheville

There's no fall leaf color in the Asheville area yet. Based on my two years living here, there won't be good leaf color before early November. The first ten days of November should be a good time to visit.

Are you talking about Asheville proper, or the parkway near Asheville? Seems everything above 4000 feet is turning quite nicely from reports I've read, and even spotty below that in places.

Unfortunately, the trip is planned. We get what we get this time around. I will say that next time, I'd probably target end of October to beginning of November if fall color was the main objective. Luckily, this year the color would just be icing. We have tons of hikes and waterfalls to keep us busy this time around
